Project: ‘Vertoro – Development of Crude Lignin Oil from Lignin and Wood’
Dannie van Osch is a postdoctoral researcher at Technical University Eindhoven and Chief Business Officer at ‘Vertoro’, the smallest oil company in the world. On top of that, Dannie is also an alumnus and ambassador of the ‘Young European Talent Program’ and participant in the ‘2019 CAS Future Leaders Program’. Dannie’s research interests include spinning disk reactors, micro reactors and catalysis with visible light. Dannie’s passions revolve around his research, which even gets him up in the middle of the night to write down new ideas.
One of those discoveries has been hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents, a new type of solvent, which has the possibility of being an assistant in the creation of a new crude lignin oil that can be made from lignin and wood. This oil is comparable to fossil oil, which creates the possibility of also being used to make chemicals, materials and fuels with a much lower CO2 impact on the world. Dannie has seen too many times the development of extremely useful scientific research ending up on the bookshelf, so he is determined through his project to achieve a different outcome.
Dannie would like to personally achieve from the OYW Shell Scholarship Programme 2019:
“My greatest hope is to come up with a new idea / project with other talents, which is so innovative and sustainable that it will change the world! If I could do that, then the OYW Shell Scholarship Programme 2019 would have been 100% successful for me.”
